We all know that Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day are holidays where we, as U.S. citizens, give a heartfelt expression of thanks to the men and women who have served in the military, both past and present. What many of us may not be aware of, however, is an underlying issue that many of these brave individuals still face, even when they get back from war – Post Traumatic Stress (also known as PTSD). The ramifications of PTS can be depression, flashbacks, paranoia, and even violence.
This issue and how we deal with it in our legal system when crimes are committed by former soldiers is what award-winning filmmaker and director Jeff Werner masterfully highlights in the documentary film THOSE WHO SERVE. Jeff’s passion for this subject aligns with his lifelong mission to help others who are underserved.
In THOSE WHO SERVE, we meet three American soldiers suffering from PTS, with no previous criminal history, who now find themselves in serious trouble with the law once back from fighting overseas. This caused Jeff to ask, “How does this happen? Why does it happen? Is it preventable?”
Join us as we speak with Jeff Werner about this challenging issue facing so many of our military veterans. We also get to meet Marine Veteran Mark Stillion, one of the subjects in the film, and hear about both his struggles and his successes as he fights another valiant fight – this time one that he must engage in within himself.
