Founding Director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies, Critic, Journalist, Author
Sister Rose Pacatte, FSP, lives in Culver City, CA (Los Angeles). In 2002, she celebrated her Golden Jubilee and twenty years carrying out the Pauline mission in Los Angeles and “Hollywood ”.
She has a Master of Arts in Education in Media Studies (Edu Communication or Media Literacy Education) from the University of London’s Institute of Education and a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Communications from the Graduate Theological Foundation in the USA.
She is an award-winning film critic for both St Anthony Messenger (USA) since 2002 and a contributor to the National Catholic Reporter on film and television since 2009. Rose has participated on SIGNIS (Catholic), Ecumenical, or Inter-religious film juries at Berlin, Venice (3 times), Locarno, Cannes, Newport Beach, and the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival. She was also an Unda World jury member at the Monteaux Television Festival.
Rose has been active in SIGNIS (previously Unda, O.C.I.C.) since 1988, serving as a board member and regional delegate. Rose co-authored five volumes of “Lights, Camera, Faith” with Rev. Peter Malone (Australia), two books on media literacy education, a biography of the actor Martin Sheen and Corita Kent, a famous artist from the USA, as well contributing chapters to other books on film, popular culture, and media literacy education.
Her latest is a chapter entitled “Hollywood and Hope: Social Impact Entertainment and Media Literacy Education ” to be published this year by Routledge.
