Luther Keith Jr. is a Los Angeles–based community leader, trained gang intervention specialist, and founder of Central Urban Mission, a grassroots nonprofit serving unhoused individuals across Los Angeles County. For more than two decades, he has been a consistent presence on the streets of Skid Row, South Los Angeles, Compton, and surrounding neighborhoods, providing daily food distribution, clothing, hygiene supplies, prayer, and transitional support to people experiencing homelessness.

Keith began his outreach work in 1998 after witnessing hundreds of people sleeping at a bus stop near Avalon and Imperial. What started as collecting clothing through his father’s church and gathering food from local schools, parks, and restaurants evolved into a lifelong mission of street-level service. In 2017, he formally established Central Urban Mission to expand and sustain that work.

Operating relationally rather than institutionally, Keith and his volunteers personally deliver meals and supplies directly to individuals living in encampments and on sidewalks throughout Los Angeles. His approach emphasizes dignity, accountability, faith, and consistency. He has helped connect unhoused individuals and parolees to housing programs and employment opportunities, including security and event positions at SoFi Stadium, and continues preparing individuals for hiring opportunities related to major events such as the World Cup and Olympics.
