David G. Carpenter attended Tufts University in Boston and Eastern College in Philadelphia before obtaining his M.Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1991.  During Seminary, David was very involved in Young Life and spent a life-transforming year on internship in Cape Town, South Africa.

Arriving the day after the Botha/De Klerk elections in the fall of 1989, David was serving in South Africa when F.W. De Klerk came into power, Nelson Mandela was released from prison and as all of the Apartheid laws were dismantled.

Since graduating seminary David has served as the Associate Pastor for Youth, Children and Family Ministries at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Westlake Village, California, the Pastor of Singles and Church Life Ministries at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, senior pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, NJ and has been serving as senior pastor at Brentwood Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles since 2009.

Married in 2002, David and his wife, Yvette, fled the country for a 16-month honeymoon/fact finding/backpacking trip around the world visiting 45 countries, exploring the globe and meeting with various churches, missionaries and mission organizations.  They have 2 children, Ryan and Clay, who are currently 17 and 15 years old.

David serves on the board of directors of The Medical Benevolence Foundation, African Enterprise, and has served on Newton Presbytery’s Nairobi Partnership Committee, was the president of the Morris Area Clergy Council, served on the Board of Pension’s Pastor Advisory Committee, mentors pastors and does church consultation both nationally and internationally.  He has spoken around the US on various issues concerning missions and globalization and has worked with numerous reconciliation organizations in countries such as South Africa, Croatia, Northern Ireland, and Israel/Palestine.  He has a strong passion for missions, loves to preach, a strong interest in counseling and loves people.  In their free time, Dave and his family can be found traveling, hiking, reading, scuba diving or trying to finish his doctoral thesis!
