Claudia Saavedra is an Honors Living-Learning Community Scholar at Rutgers University studying her Masters Public Administration. An alumnus of Rutgers University, Saavedra graduated summa cum laude honors in public policy, and nonprofit administration while ranking third in her graduating class. Her personal experience coming from poverty, first-generation American, and
a first-generation college student inspires her to provide economic opportunities to communities worldwide.
Claudia first dove into policy development when she was 15 years old, where she wrote and implemented a policy for her high school that helped international students. At the age of 20, Saavedra was elected as the first Latina woman on the Board of Trustees of County College of Morris as the Alumni Trustee, representing 8,000+ students. In this position, she proposed an artificial intelligence degree program that was enacted the following year.
Her passion for breaking down barriers led her to found FlairNow, a college and career access online mentoring platform that reached over 400+ students nationally and internationally and propose Rutgers University College Access Leadership Institute. Currently, FlairNow is launching an app that matches students with scholarships and career opportunities.
Saavedra cares deeply about economic opportunity, promoting diversity, and equal educational access allowing her to serve as a Dalai Lama Fellow- an organization authorized by the 14th Dalai Lama investing in young leaders, Aspen Institute Young Leader Fellow, Resolution Project Fellow, Management Leadership for Tomorrow Fellow, and 4.0 Schools Essentials Fellow. In 2019, Claudia’s work was featured by Project Weave, a social impact project founded by NY Times best-selling author and political commentator, David Brooks, Google for Hispanic Heritage Month, and selected as Forbes 30 under 30 scholar.
